Today marks a milestone for me.

15 March 1999 was the day I started working as an Accountant. Twenty-seven years!! Can you believe it?

Not climbing a corporate ladder. Not chasing titles. Just showing up and doing the work, year after year.

That kind of longevity teaches you things.

One of the biggest lessons is this:
life gets lighter when you stop tolerating what drains you.

Which feels strangely fitting with St Patrick’s Day and the story of driving the snakes out of Ireland.

Sometimes improvement doesn’t come from adding more.

Sometimes it comes from removing something.

What 27 Years of Work Has Taught Me

After 27 years working in the same profession, I’ve realised something important. Life often gets better not by adding more, but by removing the things that drain us.

With St Patrick’s Day arriving, the craft desk has turned very green.

Shamrocks everywhere.

There’s something I’ve always loved about seasonal fabrics. They’re small, cheerful reminders that life moves in cycles.

Different seasons, different patterns, but the same steady hands making them.

Fuel prices this week have pushed me dangerously close to full blown frustration. And let me tell you about the anxiety and PTSD I’ve felt come back like COVID was here all over again!

As an Accounting watching the numbers climb while knowing exactly how many layers of tax, policy and global decisions sit behind them is… infuriating.

It’s one of those things where you know the problem isn’t simple.

But you also know everyday people are the ones who carry the weight of it.

I can’t change it.

But I can say this:

after working under government rules and compliance systems for nearly three decades, it does sometimes feel like common sense gets lost somewhere along the way.

Anyway… rant over.

Sometimes the snake you remove is simply deciding not to let it ruin your whole week. But when I walk past every morning, I’m raging on the inside!

What Caught My Eye

Two things this week reminded me why I love seeing people build something for themselves.

First, my daughters friend Emily, just eighteen years old, racing at The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend in the 2026 Hi-Tec Oils Super Series. Follow her race car #213 or simply put some positive vibes out into the universe for her success.

Watching a young woman chase a dream in a sport that has traditionally been male-dominated is something pretty special.

And closer to home, I’ve also been thinking about two friends in the direct-selling world.

These businesses might look small from the outside.

But anyone who has built something from scratch knows how much courage and persistence it takes.

If there’s one thought I’m taking into this week, it’s this:

You don’t need to rebuild your life to make it better.

Sometimes you simply need to remove one thing that doesn’t belong anymore.

Clear out the snakes.

Everything gets lighter when you do.
