Buttons by Brooke was born in the shadow of the stunning Macdonnell Ranges in Alice Springs. Emma, Brooke’s daughter, was a young Ballerina growing her fringe & needed hair accessories. By chance, Emma received some Fabric Covered Button hair-ties & snap clips for her 5th birthday.

Brooke, a savvy Accountant who is always thinking outside the square, bought a DIY hair-tie making kit from Ebay. After a quick tutorial & some sore thumbs, she completed her first set. Best of all, Emma liked them too, so Brooke decided to make more.

When Emma was getting ready to start school, Brooke was worried that the multi-coloured hair clips she liked to wear, would be against the school uniform policy. As a result, the first official “Buttons by Brooke” button was made from the hem of Emma’s new school dress.

Making hair-ties and snap clips for Emma, quickly grew into a small hobby which then developed into a business. Brooke started selling her handmade items at local markets in Alice Springs on weekends. Over time the product range grew with customer requests. Fast forward several years, Brooke and her family, returned to her home state of Victoria. Buttons by Brooke now attends and supports local markets in the Swan Hill and surrounding communities.

The Buttons by Brooke product range is centered around Handmade Fabric Covered Buttons. It’s an old craft, even ‘old-fashioned’ as one passer by commented, passing by the market stall.

If you happen to pass by the market stall, keep an eye out for hair-ties, snap clips, bookmarks, fridge magnets, pendant necklaces, and much more. Brooke has a keen eye for choosing vibrant fabrics. Her speciality is offering personalised products that are uniquely for the individual.

In a world where everything is mass-produced, it is refreshing to look at Brooke’s product range, where every item has a story attached to it. In July 2019, the start of the new ‘financial’ year, Brooke launched the ‘Button a day challenge’ on Facebook. Each day for 365 days, Brooke offered a new button/s, accompanied by a story to her followers. It was a button journey that extended by one day due to 2020 being a leap year!

Brooke offers custom orders, and is happy to discuss an idea with you. She will do her best to source fabric in a particular print for your special occasion. Brooke also supports fellow small businesses to source her button shells. She is insistent in offering a product range that is affordable and maintains a high level of product quality. All products come from a smoke-free and pet-free home & are handmade by her.
