Investing in Future You
Investing in Future You | The Beaute Circle Blog
Small steps today create a better tomorrow.
As an accountant, I spend a lot of my working life talking about investments.
Business assets. Property. Superannuation. Shares.
The kinds of things that grow in value over time.
They're important conversations.
But over the past few years, I've realised something.
Some of the best investments we'll ever make don't appear on a balance sheet.
For a long time, I believed looking after everyone else came first.
If the kids needed new dance shoes or football boots, they got them.
If someone else needed something, I'd quietly go without.
I'd buy the cheaper shoes, the cheaper clothes, or not attend the event.
I'd put off replacing things that I probably should have replaced.
Looking back, I don't regret putting my family first.
I'd do it again.
But I do wish I'd understood something a little earlier.
Looking after yourself isn't selfish.
It's an investment.
Not because you're spending money.
Because you're building the future version of yourself.
That's why I actually love this time of year.
The start of a new financial year feels like permission to reset.
Not because we've failed.
Simply because life gets busy.
Routines drift.
And sometimes we all need a gentle reminder to begin again.
Not with one giant life overhaul.
Just one small investment at a time.
πΏ Invest in your health
Winter invites us to slow down.
Cook the soup.
Eat the seasonal vegetables.
Go for the walk while the winter sun is shining.
Stretch those tight muscles.
Book the appointment you've been putting off.
Future You will thank you.
π Invest in yourself
Replace your mascara if it's due.
Wash your makeup brushes.
Commit to a skincare routine you'll actually follow.
Not because you're trying to look twenty-five again.
Because caring for yourself sends a quiet message.
"I matter too."
π Invest in your home
Choose one drawer.
One cupboard.
One shelf.
Declutter it.
Donate what no longer serves you.
Sometimes creating space around us also creates space within us.
π° Invest in your future
Here's Accountant Brooke making her annual appearance.
Every July people rush to lodge their tax return in the first few days of the new financial year.
My advice? Don't rush.
Banks, employers, health funds and investment providers all need time to finalise your information.
Waiting a little longer often means a more accurate return.
While you're waiting, start a receipt folder for the new financial year and, if you claim work-related car expenses, make sure your motor vehicle logbook is up to date.
Future You at tax time will be very grateful.
β€οΈ Invest in your community
Choose a charity that means something to you.
Maybe it's breast cancer research.
Maybe it's women's mental health.
Maybe it's your local sporting club.
Set up a small monthly donation, or volunteer if you can.
Small, consistent acts of generosity create remarkable change over time.
π Invest in Christmas
It might seem ridiculous to mention Christmas in July.
But we're only six months away.
If December often feels financially stressful, today is the perfect day to change that.
Open a separate savings account.
Transfer whatever you can comfortably afford each week.
Ten dollars. Twenty dollars. Whatever works for your family.
By December, Future You won't remember the individual deposits.
You'll remember the peace of mind.
π Invest in today
One thing I've learnt over the years is this.
It's possible to spend so much time preparing for tomorrow that we forget to enjoy today.
So while you're investing in your future, don't forget to notice the beauty in your everyday.
Listen to your favourite song.
Notice the rainbow.
Buy the flowers.
Wear the bright lipstick.
Read another chapter.
Call someone you love.
The best investments aren't always financial.
Sometimes they're the small choices we make every day that quietly improve our health, our relationships, our confidence and our peace of mind.
The wonderful thing about investments is that they don't have to begin when you're twenty.
They can begin today.
Future You won't remember every small step.
But you'll almost certainly be thankful you took them.
Donβt forget: Be real, not perfect. Be kind, be brave, be yourself.
