The Beaute Beyond – Week 2: Glinda – The Power of Kindness
The Glitter and the Grit
We all love a bit of sparkle.
And if anyone embodied it, it was Glinda, bright, bubbly, always smiling. In The Wizard of Oz, she was the beautiful good witch who floated in on a bubble and made everything look easy.
But as I rewatched Wicked, I couldn’t help noticing something deeper. Glinda wasn’t just light and laughter, she was layered. She wanted to be liked. She wanted to do good. And sometimes, she made mistakes trying to do both.
That’s real life, isn’t it? Most of us are just doing our best to balance good intentions with messy realities.
The Lesson: Leading with Light
There’s a difference between being nice and being kind.
Niceness can be about image, saying yes, keeping the peace, or smiling through discomfort.
Kindness, though, is deeper. It’s truth delivered with care. It’s grace when others fall short. It’s showing up for people and yourself, without needing a round of applause.
This week, I caught myself thinking about all the Glinda’s I know. The women who make things look effortless, even when they’re running on empty. And how often I’ve been that person too, floating on my own bubble, trying to keep everyone else calm while I quietly spin inside.
Sometimes, the kindest thing we can do is let the bubble pop and still choose to show up.
The Beaute Connection: Glow Without Pretence
If Glinda were real, she’d have her shimmer routine down pat. But even she would tell us: glow means nothing without grounding.
This week’s skincare muse? The Golden Radiance Peel-Off Mask.
Because sometimes you just need to strip back, reset, and reveal that natural glow beneath the glitter.
Apply, pause, peel, breathe. It’s the perfect reminder that taking time for yourself isn’t selfish, it’s essential.
From the Craft Desk: Kindness in Colour
No new buttons on the bench this week, just ideas swirling like glitter in a snow globe. With Christmas peeking around the corner, red, green, and metallics are calling. But the craft this week isn’t fabric or thread, it’s foundations. Reworking packaging, refining designs, learning as I go.
Kindness to myself means patience. Even creative dreams need a little breathing space to take shape.
From My Work Desk: Everyday Leadership
At work, kindness has its own ripple effect.
Our new receptionist has brought such bright energy into the office, organised, proactive, never afraid to ask questions. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and it’s reminded me how much difference one person’s attitude can make in a team.
That’s Glinda energy: lead with kindness, lift others up, and don’t be afraid to sparkle in your own way.
Wrap Up
Glinda may have arrived in a bubble, but she didn’t stay there.
Real magic isn’t found in floating above the chaos, it’s found in staying soft while the world stays loud.
Be kind, even when it’s inconvenient.
Be gracious, even when it’s not noticed.
And most of all, be real, because people connect with honesty far more than perfection.
“You’ve always had the power, my dear. You just had to learn it for yourself.” – Glinda
