The Week After: When Everything Slows Down
I got home from Brisbane… and everything slowed right down.
Not in a bad way.
Not in an overwhelmed way.
Just… tired.
The kind of tired that doesn’t ask for motivation.
It asks you to sit still for a minute.
Seminar was full.
Learning, people, energy, new ideas, new products, conversations… all the things you go for.
And I’m so glad I went.
But coming home?
That’s where the real part begins.
Back to normal life.
Back to work.
Back to routines that don’t clap when you show up.
This week didn’t look impressive.
I didn’t build anything big.
I didn’t create much.
I didn’t tick off a long list.
I rested more than I planned to.
Walked a little.
Worked, but not at full speed.
Caught up on washing and the everyday things that don’t feel like progress… but actually are.
And if I’m honest, there were moments I felt it.
A bit tired.
A bit cranky.
Apparently the solution (according to the girls at Seminar) was more magnesium.
Which I do have at home… just didn’t bring with me this time.
So instead, I went with a simpler approach:
“It’s not my problem.”
Have the moment, then move on.
One of the best parts of the week was having my daughter home again, even just briefly.
Nothing big.
Just sitting around together, having dinner, watching TV.
The kind of moments you don’t realise you’ve missed until they’re back again.
It made everything feel… whole.
A school holiday traditional happened while I was away, a day making sausage rolls. One of those simple, messy, real-life moments I would have loved to be part of.
The footy season is back too.
Two games, two wins, and my son’s kicked a goal in both.
I missed them both. Distance, timing, and honestly, energy ruled me out but hearing about it still mattered.
Life doesn’t stop just because you’re tired.
It just keeps moving, and you find your way back into it.
There were wins this week, just quieter ones.
A couple of 5km walks.
Not consistent, not perfect… but still moving forward.
Small steps. But they count.
Work had its moments too.
A reminder that what we do as accountants isn’t always seen for what it is.
There’s pressure behind the scenes in compliance, documentation, standards, and responsibility.
And sometimes, no matter how much care you take, it still gets questioned.
I talk a lot about supporting small business owners.
But I think it’s worth saying, the people behind the numbers carry a lot too.
On the Beaute side, things moved fast.
New products released with some selling out within hours.
It’s exciting, but also a reminder that not everything needs to be chased.
There will always be something new.
What matters more is how you show up with what you already have.
And maybe that’s what this week has really been about.
Not pushing. Not proving. Just returning.
To routine. To home. To yourself.
With Anzac Day coming this week, it feels like a quiet reminder too.
Not about big moments.
But about steady ones.
Showing up.
Holding your ground.
Doing what needs to be done, even when no one’s watching.
This week didn’t look like progress on paper.
But it felt like something important and that’s more than enough.
