Don’t Forget the Forgotten Bits (and the Hairy Truth About Winter)
This week, we’re moving beyond the face to give a little love to all those often-neglected dry zones: elbows, knees, heels, hands, and — let’s not forget — the delicate décolletage (yep, I had to spellcheck that too!).
When life gets busy or the weather turns cold, it’s easy to let these areas slide. But winter doesn’t just zap moisture from your face — your whole body can feel the impact. And if you’re anything like me, sometimes it's the little reminders that help the most.
What’s Been Working for Me:
💧 Keeping a hand cream at my desk and applying it after I wash my hands
💧 Exfoliating dry areas like heels and elbows once a week with an exfoliating glove
💧 Adding body lotion right after showering, when skin is still slightly damp
💧 Switching to a nourishing foot balm at night — socks optional (but encouraged!)
Let’s Talk Décolletage
The neck and chest are among the first places to show signs of aging — but they’re often overlooked in skincare routines. Our range includes a lovely neck cream, but full transparency: I don't personally use it because it contains a mushroom extract, and... look, I like mushrooms — on pizza, sure. But in my skincare? Let’s just say the smell takes me straight to the staff lunchroom and not in a good way.
(Also, I can’t mention mushrooms this month without thinking of the Erin Patterson case — wild and awful in equal measure.)
So instead, I treat my neck and chest just like my face: cleanse, serum, moisturiser, and always SPF. If you’re already doing your face, it takes an extra 10 seconds. Totally worth it to look younger, right?
Skin & Hair — It’s All Connected
Let’s not forget the scalp!
Winter often brings on dry, flaky scalp or full-blown dandruff — especially if your hair's up all the time (like mine), you’re using heating indoors, or your products aren’t quite right for the season.
Here’s what helps me:
🌀 Letting freshly washed hair air-dry (down, not in a bun) to increase circulation and airflow
🌀 Using a scalp exfoliator brush weekly to remove product build-up
🌀 Reducing the number of styling products to avoid weighing hair down (I only use 1)
🌀 Chatting to my hairdresser when I notice ongoing issues — they always have tips!
(Side note: SeneGence is currently phasing out their haircare range, so I’ve been leaning into simple, no-fuss, hairdresser approved solutions.)
Easy Wins: Habit Stack It
If you’re like me, your mornings are already busy — so here are a few ways to sneak in skin and body care without adding stress:
☕ Moisturise your hands while your coffee brews, or as in my case - the 45 seconds it takes your smoothie to blend
🛁 Use an exfoliating glove in the shower just once a week
👚 Keep hand or foot cream on your nightstand — quick swipe before bed
🎧 Pop on a hair mask or scalp treatment while you’re watching a show or checking emails or scheduling your bills
Dry July isn’t about doing everything perfectly — it’s about paying attention to the signs your body gives you and responding with a little extra care. And honestly? That care adds up.
