Mental health through the ages.
Liptember 2024 - Day 16
I've been in my 40's for a while now, and I remember my cousins saying its all downhill after 40. I even remember getting my Mum a silly toy with 'over the hill' on it when she turned 50. So I guess the teens are tough - super tough. Your 20's are all about having fun and working out what you want to do with your life. My 30's were all about motherhood, and so far the 40's have really been about the aftermaths of the pandemic. Oh, I did start a new business which I thought could work around the kids but as they've gotten older, their needs have changed.
So as I rapidly run out of my 40's, every decade has its challenges. How do we cope best with it all. I think its all about sharing our experiences. For instance, when you're planning a holiday, everyone tells you to go here or do this because its fantastic. When you're planning a wedding, everyone wants to know all the things. What's your dress like? What colour and how many bridesmaids are you having? Where is the reception? And what about the parenting advice we throw at already overwhelmed new or expectant mothers.
The Liptember statistic today tells us that Women under 39 years are likely to be facing a severe mental health disorder which is a significant increase in 2024, compared to 2022.
Maybe we need generic Women's groups where we get together for support and guidance from our older peers. Are women under 39 not getting help because its not available or because they have no one to ask? Are these women stuck in a place where they feel forgotten because they're trying to do all the things with young kids and a job to maintain. With all the mental health resources available, we shouldn't leave one decade of women behind.
