Winter Skin Woes? Here's How to Hydrate from the Inside Out
Let’s Talk Dry July — The Skincare Edition
Sure, Dry July is usually about taking a break from alcohol. But around here? We’re flipping the script. This month, I’m ditching the dryness in my skincare routine — and inviting you to do the same.
Winter can do a number on our skin: cold winds, indoor heaters, long hot showers, and maybe a forgotten glass of water or two. It all adds up to dullness, flakiness, tightness, and that uncomfortable "my skin is thirsty" feeling.
So let’s talk about hydration — the easy, affordable ways to bring it back into your day, from the inside and the outside.
1. Hydrate from Within
It seems obvious, but it's often overlooked: drinking more water is still one of the simplest ways to support your skin. Sip consistently throughout the day rather than chugging at once, and try herbal teas if plain water isn’t your jam.
Even better? Add in water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, strawberries, or soup to keep your hydration levels steady. Your skin will thank you.
2. Check Your Shower Habits
A long, hot shower feels amazing in winter — but it can strip your skin of its natural oils. Try dialing down the temp just a notch and keeping showers shorter where you can.
Swap out harsh body washes for gentler options, and pat (don’t rub) your skin dry before applying a moisturiser.
3. Lock It In with Layering
Just like you layer your clothes in winter, skincare loves to be layered too. Start with your thinnest product (like a mist or serum), then build up to richer moisturisers or facial oils.
A great basic order looks like this:
Mist or toner
Serum or active (like SeneGence Climate Control)
Facial oil (like Nangai Oil)
Moisturiser
Bonus tip: when applying moisturiser to your body, apply to slightly damp skin for better absorption.
4. Don’t Skip Sunscreen
Yes, even on cloudy days. UV rays don’t go on holiday in winter, and your skin still needs protection. Opt for a moisturising sunscreen if your skin tends to feel tight or dry. And definitely, do not forget your sunscreen if visiting the snow!
5. Add Moisture Back Into the Air
If your home is heated and dry, try adding a humidifier (or even just a bowl of water near the heater). Your skin barrier works better when the air around you isn’t completely stripped of moisture.
Product Love: My Go-To Hydration Duo
For daily skin support, I rely on two absolute heroes:
Climate Control — a lightweight, water-binding mist that feels like a drink of water for your face
Nangai Oil — rich in Omega-6 and -9, it locks everything in without feeling greasy (a winter favourite that smells devine)
These two together? Magic. But if you’re starting from scratch, even a bit of coconut oil added to your regular moisturiser is a great first step.

Final Thoughts
Hydration doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s about little switches — shorter showers, gentler products, smarter layering, and sips of water between it all.
Winter skin can be soft, supple, and glowing. You just have to show up for it.
